Purpose

The Mississippi Foreign Language Association is constituted to encourage active interest and research in languages other than English (LOTE) as well as the advancement of the study and teaching of LOTE in schools, colleges and universities in Mississippi. Through its regular activities - annual conference, speakers, bulletins, publications and special events, as well as lobbying and providing the media with relevant information - it seeks to create and sustain such interest.

MFLA Profile

Languages and Mississippi (MFLA brochure. With support from the Mississippi Humanities Council)


Purpose: The purpose of the MFLA will be the advancement of the study and teaching of languages other than English in the schools, colleges and universities of Mississippi.


Membership: People and organizations paying membership dues annually.


Officers: President, first vice-president, second vice-president and executive director.


Executive board: Fourteen members consisting of the four officers, the historian, editor of the Mississippi Language Crusader, the outgoing president, the presidents of the college/university and the elementary/secondary sections, the presidents of AATF, AATG, AATSP, a representative of the Classics and the foreign language consultant at the Mississippi State Department of Education.


Fiscal year: January 1 of any given year to December 31 of the same year.


Annual meeting: MFLA meets annually, usually the second weekend of November.
